Inject Tech & Lightning MAF Impressions

Well, it took lots of four letter words and time but I finally got my Lightning 80mm MAF and new UPR "Big Mouth" filter on tonight. It was worth it though! The new MAF, filter, and adapter (I rigged one from Lowe's) barely fit where the stock airbox used to be but they do.

I also put my Inject Tech Chip in because it is a custom burn with the Lightning MAF's transfer function on it. I knew this was going to be fun. Anytime you have to pull the EEC it's fun (no it really sucks), as many of you know. I decided to relocate the EEC to the floorboard at the very top of the passenger side floor mat. It is plenty out of the way there and should be ok. Call me lazy, but I won't have to struggle if I ever need to get to it again. That finished, I hooked the battery back up and let it run for about 10 minutes, just to get good and warm.

Ok, the first thing I noticed was the adjusted idle. My car's idle was now about 800-900 RPM in park. This is cool because now my pulleys will charge my alternator even at idle. Then I couldn't stand it anymore and I went for a spin.

The car is a TON more throttle responsive. The new MAF must be getting a ton of air, especially with the new filter. I definitely have to say that my new MAF/filter setup is far superior to the stock airbox with a K&N panel. Even with the hot underhood air, I think it is a better setup overall.

The car no longer has any dead spots. You know what I'm talking about? Those speeds that you're moving along at and for some reason, you have to hit it right then. But your car doesn't seem to know that now is the time to go, right? You just kind of sluggishly accelerate with the pedal all the way to the floor. Well, that is no more with the Inject Tech Calibration! I love it, the car takes off strong no matter how fast you're traveling. There is even power at 75 mph!! This is the way these cars should have come from the factory!

The car also shifts a LOT faster. It is very quick and I'm quite impressed. I have not yet had a chance to install my Inject Tech Shift Kit but I can't even imagine how it could get much better! The car chirps the 245/45/ZR17's when I hit 2nd with ease. This is just from the chip! I can't wait to put the shift kit in!

Also, the top speed limiter is gone (time to test the new 145 mph speedo!). The car is just overall running better. My gas mileage will definitely be up (before the new MAF and the chip, my car had been in MIL land forever and was running ridiculously rich).

All this is coming from a guy whose very first mod to his Bird was a Superchip. I blew $250 on the Superchip. It was not worth the $ at all. I wish there had been an Inject Tech when I first started modding my Bird. These chips are the way to go. Do not even waste your money on a "Pooperchip". They are nothing compared to an Inject Tech Chip. Don't waste your money on a sub-par chip, get one from Inject-Tech!!!
