Tools reguired:

  • A friend
  • Food and Drink for friend
  • 2 car jacks
  • Dremal tool for grinding metal- (I used a cone shaped one that was made of a stone like material)
  • 2 Hinges and bushing kits, they say HELP on them and are for a F-150 I believe
HGE ASY DR UPR   F4SZ-6322800-B   $26.58
    HGE & CHK ASY   F4SZ-6322810-B   $43.98
  • Common wrenchs
  • Black Marker... or some color that will stand out on your car

Procedure:

  1. Open your door, take the jacks and place one at the back end of the door and one at the front end of the door.
  2. Jack the door up tight... so the door has no sag anymore... and all pressure is off of the hinge pins.
  3. Take that marker and draw a line all the way around where the hingeattaches to the door.
  4. Take out the door hinge bolts from the door.
  5. This is when you need your friend. Have him balance the door as you take these bolts out. The jacks will support the weight of the door.
  6. As soon as the door is loose you make want to try moving the door to another support system a few inches back to give you more room. You can move the door about 6 inches without having to disconnect any wires. Disconnecting wires takes a good 3 hours, so you really want to avoid this.
  7. Now that the hinge is free, take the dremel and cut those pins right in the middle. You may want to have water around to pour on the pins and hinge - they tend to get hot.
  8. Once you cut all the way through the pin you can knock them out and you will have half the hinge in your hand.
  9. Take it to a vise and drive out/ cut out/ whatever it takes to get the old bushings out.
  10. Now take the new bushings from the kit and drive them into the hinge.
  11. Now put the hinges back together with the pins. They will be a little long but don't worry, they don't get in the way of anything.
  12. Now move the door back in place. Line up the hinges with the marks you made on the door before. Tighten the bolts and your are done.
