Valves-how they work |
These are the parts on inside the heads which open and close to allow
fresh air to be drawn into the combustion chamber, seals the combustion chamber and allows exhaust to exit the combustion chamber. These seal the pistons to the cylinders ensuring the maximum amout of combustion force is applied to the piston top and the minimum is lost past the piston and bearings. These allow a place for frictionless(as much as possible) relative motion to exist beteween two or more metal parts. With the proper lubrication there is little if any metal to metal contact since engine oil is forced under pressure into the bearing and the interior part to the bearing actually floats on a thin layer of oil.
