There is this little nifty device called a Smart Spark which adds and removes ignition timing from your engine. One of tbird owner wrote a little post on it. It would be the best if I just quoted him:
" A friend loaned me this device called Smart Spark. To install the Smart Spark we removed the SPOUT and installed the two leads. Added the power from the ignition and we started programming the ignition.
We tested 2-15 degree advanced at different RPM's and settled on 6 degrees @500rpm's which added 2 more in of vacuum during idle.
WOW! The car now idles at 550rpm's with 12in of vacuum. At 1,000 rpm the vacuum is 15in. Now that we corrected the idle vacuum we started adjusting @ 500rpm intervals.
Once we were done with testing different advances we settled on 6 deg @ 500, 5 deg @ 1K, 5 deg @ 1.5K and the rest of the ignition timing was tapered by the Smart Spark. You can even program two different ignition curves all the way to 8K! I am still waiting for the custom chip but they now know to adjust the base idle timing to additional 5-6 degrees. I may even keep the Smart Spark in the car! I can see the 12's! NOW!
